The latest surveys on "Workplace
Flexibility" give us a great gauge on the impact of
flexibility programs on employee attraction, motivation and
retention. It found that the stronger the culture of
flexibility, the lower the voluntary turnover rate and the
more positive impact on
|
employee satisfaction, motivation and
engagement. The quantity of programs offered had less
correlation to success than how much flexibility is
"culturally embedded" in the company and how well the
programs were supported by management. The most
prevalent programs are flex-time, part time schedules and
tele-working (e.g. meet a repair person or sick child).
The obstacles to the adoption of flexibility programs
include lack of training and top management resistance.
Given its importance to Gen-Y, expect more employers to
embrace flexibility as part of an effective "Total Rewards
Package".
